Happy Thursday, guys! As you guys know, Jackson and I moved into a new place in October this past year. We're completely in love with our new place, but it's definitely lacking a storage factor. There were two units side-by-side available. One was incredibly dated but had tons of storage, while the other want had just been remodeled, but had virtually no storage. We fell in love with the smaller and nicer one and took it, which means that we had to do some serious space-saving things to make all our stuff fit. Heres a couple things we did in the kitchen to make the most of the space, and make it feel as roomy as possible! 1. We keep a lot of our food organized and on display. A really big downside of this kitchen is that it doesn't have a pantry. We had a huge pantry in our last place, and didn't realize how much we relied on it until we moved here! I ended up using this shelf I had purchased from a yardsale page and made it into a sort of open pantry. We use the OXO containers that you can find virtually anywhere (ours are the older models) and it makes our food look so much more organized! It's also a great way to quickly check what we're low on when we're making a grocery run! 2. We keep our counters as open as possible. Any appliances that we don't use often are stored in a cabinet. We also don't store any food on our counters. This really opens up our space, since we have these really great, white countertops to display. I really hate clutter, so keeping our countertops clean and clear really makes the kitchen feel more open. 3. Keep your cabinets organized. I'm not going to lie, this isn't the prettiest cabinet in the world, but we keep it organized so we always know exactly where stuff is, and we can fit more as well! I also recommend investing in stuff like baskets to keep everything compartmentalized. I picked up the one in the back right corner from TJ Maxx and have several more of them floating around the house as well! This one holds all our cleaning supplies and makes it feel a lot more organized. Another way to organize cabinets is with Lazy Susan's. Before we got these, our spice and medicine cabinets were a mess, and I could never find or reach anything! Now, everything fits easily and is easy to grab. 4. Don't buy in bulk. This was a hard thing for Jackson and I to do at first, because we wanted the best deal on everything, and buying in bulk would typically make it cheaper overall. Since we're so limited on cabinet space, we now only buy things one at a time. If we're out of chickpeas, we just get one can unless we're making a specific recipe. This also includes stuff like paper towel and toilet paper. We used to get a six-pack of paper towel at a time. Now, since we have nowhere to store the extra rolls, we purchase just two rolls at a time! I hope you guys are able to use some of these tips to help out in your small areas! Does anyone have any that they can recommend to me? We're always trying new things to get the most out of our space!
Much Love, Vikka
